Hellboy - The Science Of Evil

Project 50 :: 2007 / hellboy :: English ::

A game in the Hellboy universe. It was supposed to be released with the 2nd Hellboy movie. Both Mike Mignoli and Guillermo del Toro had a bit of input into the story of the game. The story of the game isn't related to the movie.

We developed this game within a limited time frame. Then the movie got postponed while the game was already finished and waited basically on the shelf for a year. Konami didn't want to spend more money and the publishing US studio shut its doors.

The downloadable content never got released which is a shame because the trailer park level I did was probably the best part of the game.

Underground Mission

I worked on this most of the time. It is one of the later levels and the main creatures are the frogs. I tried to put a few surprise moments into this mission.

The frogs can climb along walls or ceilings following paths. We had to set up these paths. It was pretty much try and error to find out if they work and how it looks.

The Arena - There are something like a hundred characters watching the fight. They start cheering when Hellboy gets close to them. All they do is to play an animation when the player enters a radius around them.

A lot of items in the game can be destroyed or used as a weapon.

Castle

I temporary worked on visual prop placement in this mission and I set up the culling zones. At the end a lot of props had to be removed to get the performance right.
