Kirschallee Apartments

One of the largest projects I worked on. A complex of 4 old army barracks from the 40's left abandonded for several years.

Now they contain 156 1-3 bedroom apartments adding up to 13.000 square meters of space.

I did design developement and documentation for all buildings.

Finished Buildings

There where 4 buildings. 2 of them can be seen on the right side and another one is on the left. The 4th and largest building is not in this picture.

All buildings got either a roof garden or a balcony like these ones here.

I tried to keep the design of the balconies raw and technical in contrast to the pretty simple shape and old fashioned look of the buildings.

The wooden blinds for the windows was a wish of the client.

Existing Buildings

That's the state the buildings were in before we started reconstructing them. They were empty for 10 years.

Construction

The largest building under construction seen on the left. It is around 100m long.

One side of the roof was burned out. This house was modified the most.

You can see a new road being constructed between this house and the ones on the rigth side. They even got proper street names. This one is: Von-Klitzing-Strasse.

Here are some photos just after the complex was finished. It were four buildings all together. This might be the smallest of them. The largest was about 100 m long.

Personally I thought that the rough black wood looked too much like an old barn.

So you make all these amazing details and this is what comes out of it. At least the shape stayed as it was proposed to.
